School of Civil Engineering is one of the earliest teaching units established in Shengyang Jianzhu University with 2 departments and 7 research institutions. At present, the school has 105 staff. Among them, there are 29 professors, 42 associate professors, 13 doctoral supervisors, 62 master supervisors; 4 experts of hundred-level in New Century Excellent Talents Support Plan of Ministry of Education, 1 member of the Teaching Guidance sub-committee of Civil Engineering in institutions of higher education of the Ministry of Education, 5 distinguished professor of Climbing Scholars of Liaoning Province, 5 renowned teachers of Liaoning Province and 8 national and provincial teaching teams and innovation teams.
The school now has the first-level discipline authorized to confer doctoral degree, the postdoctoral research station and 2 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degree in Civil Engineering and Mechanics. Civil Engineering is a high-level key discipline and a first-class key characteristic discipline in Liaoning Province. In the fourth national discipline assessment, it is rated as B+, which ranks 14th in the country and ranks among the top 15%.
It also has the right to grant 2 bachelor’s degrees of Civil Engineering and Safety Engineering. Civil Engineering is national characteristic discipline of undergraduate under construction, and provincial characteristic discipline of undergraduate. And it is also the education pilot discipline of innovation and entrepreneurship in Liaoning Province, and the internationalization pilot discipline of undergraduate course system in Liaoning Province. It is still the first first-class undergraduate education demonstration major in Liaoning Province. The Civil Engineering has passed the professional assessments of Ministry of Education for four times. Especially in 2012, it achieved an excellent performance, gaining period of validity for 8 years (exemption from assessments). Civil Engineering Laboratory Center is the laboratory teaching demonstration center of Liaoning Province.
The school has a national practice base for university students, three national engineering practice education centers. It also has 13 provincial and ministerial key laboratories and engineering technology centers approved by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development, the Department of Science and Technology of Liaoning Province, the Department of Education of Liaoning Province, the Development and Reform Commission of Liaoning Province. It also has a new think tank discipline platform of Liaoning universities.
In the past three years, teachers of the college have undertaken more than 320 research projects, including key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Natural Science Foundation, and the National Science and Technology Support Plan. They have won 52 national, provincial and ministerial awards for Scientific and Technology Progress, provincial awards for Teaching Achievements and other awards, and have been granted 190 invention patents. Besides, students have won more than 170 national awards in various subject competitions.
The school has established cooperative relations of scientific research and talent training with more than ten famous universities in the United States, Russia, and Japan. It has established engineering practice bases in cooperation with large state-owned enterprises such as China Construction Engineering Corporation.
